Ghana has dropped to 74th in the latest FIFA world rankings released on April 1, 2026, slipping two places from its previous position.

The Black Stars remain 14th in Africa, but the latest ranking reflects a continued struggle for consistency despite the team’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decline follows a challenging international window in which Ghana faced stronger opposition, with performances highlighting gaps in organisation and match sharpness.

Although the team secured a place at the World Cup as winners of their qualifying group in late 2025, results over the past year have been mixed. Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and at one point dropped to 77th in the world rankings before making a slight recovery.

The recent dip comes amid changes to the technical setup. The Ghana Football Association ended its relationship with head coach Otto Addo on March 31, a day after the team’s defeat to Germany. A replacement has yet to be named.
